Compagnie l’Homme debout was founded in September 2011 at the initiative of Benoît Mousserion and is based in Poitiers.
Today — perhaps more than ever — we feel a strong urgency to create large-scale performances. We seek to affirm our shared need to express our freedoms in public space.
A large-scale format is an invitation extended to the widest possible audience. We are not satisfied with striking images or the sheer gigantism of our characters. We stand for the idea that, especially in large-scale work, form must serve a committed and poetic vision. This is the core of our artistic research.
Compagnie l’Homme debout develops a project deeply rooted in collaboration with the inhabitants of the territories where it has the opportunity to work. The creative process behind many of the company’s performances and events is intertwined with the implementation of participatory projects — often long and intensive — enabling encounters, exchange, and shared experiences with local communities.
