The hut of Plume, Cergy

Cergy (France) — 2024

performance involving participatory outreach activities prior to the presentation

The story of Plume

La Cabane à Plume(s) is a performance that invites the inhabitants of a territory to prepare themselves to become part of its story. To this end, we designed tailor-made outreach modules including construction workshops, singing, dance, and theatre. We can lead these modules ourselves and/or train local participants to facilitate them on our behalf. Tutorials are also available so that everyone can prepare from home.

My cabin is my refuge, my banner, my shelter of chance, my observatory. My cabin is my own world.

Plume is a young girl of about ten years old, and her world is under threat. The birds have fallen silent; they have suddenly disappeared, heralding disaster.

Plume calls upon us to join her struggle, to seek the humanity that connects us all, in order to try to save her cabin and bring the birds back.

But the countdown has already begun.

Our Intervention

We worked in Cergy as part of the Cergy Soit ! festival, where Plume became the emblem of the 2024 edition. The festival takes place in two parts: the preludes and the main event.

During the preludes, Plume appeared in all the municipalities of the Oise community of communes. She embarked on a raft in Pontoise after a procession in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, then traveled along the river from town to town in search of the birds of her cabin. Meanwhile, the “spirits of the cabin,” seven mischievous characters, appeared in other communes across the territory.

Several months beforehand, Benoît Mousserion led introductory workshops with community animators. These animators then became Plume’s ambassadors, inviting residents to prepare and participate.
